MediaTek introduces the Helio X23 and Helio X27 chipsets; both carry deca-core CPUs

MediaTek announced today two new chipsets for its high powered Helio X2x line. The Helio X23 and Helio X27 both feature a deca-core CPU that is created using MediaTek's tri-cluster setup. Both come with two high powered Cortex A-72 cores and two sets of four low powered Cortex-A53 cores. The CPU on the Helio X27 chipset features a 2.6GHz clock speed compared with a slower 2.5GHz clock speed on the Helio X25 SoC. The new Helio X23 SoC and Helio X27 SoC both support dual camera setups, something that we are seeing more and more of in MediaTek's main markets. Speaking of photography, MediaTek's Imagiq image signal-processing solution will "integrate color and mono cameras and depth-of-field applications into a single ISP aimed at both quality and functionality for photography." IHS: Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi Mi 6 to be first with Snapdragon 835, release dates set for March

Not that it comes as a huge surprise, but allegedly the first phones with the freshly-announced  Snapdragon 835  will be Samsung's  Galaxy S8  and the  Xiaomi Mi 6 , according to Keving Wong, the CEO of research shop IHS for China. Qualcomm announced that the powerful 10nm chipset is already sampling with customers, and it will apparently be  produced in Samsung's foundries  with engineering input from the world's largest phone maker.  Alleged Xiaomi Mi 6 prototype Furthermore, Kevin Wong discloses that both the Galaxy S8 and Mi 6 are expected to be released in March, which, coincidentally, is right after Samsung is tipped to unveil its spring flagship before the MWC expo starts.  The S8 may come powered by both a homemade Exynos chipset, and a Snapdragon 835 for the US versions, that is why Samsung might have wanted to have a final say over its production and power optimization details. ...
